Pre-run checklist

The night before checklist:
- shoes
- shorts
- body glide
- bw3 for dinner?

May not have been the best performance choice. I had bw3 the night before my last 10k and felt great. We’ll see how this goes tomorrow

Milwaukee Aldermen Go At Each Other

If you know these guys and the topic (public transit) – this isn’t much of a surprise.  Like a couple of kids.  I expect this behavior from Allie and Brady :)

Post Run Fuel

After my 10k on Saturday morning, Shan and I met up with Mitch and Janele for brunch at Cafe Central. I had the spicy corn waffle with buttermilk breaded chicken, spicy cheese sauce and pico de gallo. It was a very different dish. Too many favors on one plate. The cheese sauce got the waffle too soggy too fast. Otherwise, very unique combination not for the faint of heart.

Trans Fluid Change – 2002 Honda Odyssey

My time is valuable.  So is yours.  I can’t do many mechanical things on cars; understood.  When my mechanic told me he wanted $150 to flush the transmission on the van, that sounded about right.  Before scheduling, I decided to research just a bit and found:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Automobile_Repair/Honda/Odyssey/2002/Change_Transmission_Fluid

The instructions sounded very easy.  So I went by the Honda dealership and purchased 4 quarts of Honda ATF fluid and a crush washer (18MM).  Total bill was $36.  I jacked up the van to take a look.  I didn’t know the drain plug would be so near the front of the vehicle (opposed engine, hor. aligned trans).  It wasn’t easy to get my 3/8″ square ratchet end into the drain plug (lots of rust/crud).  Once I did get it seated enough, it took quite a bit of pressure to get it to budge.  Agree with the article that the fluid shoots out.

In the end, get a very skinny funnel if you plan to fill back through the trans dipstick tube.  It is very narrow without a lot of access.  I took my time, and had the job done in under 30 minutes.  Net savings (minus my labor) $120.

Screen Door

Shan wanted a screen door for the new home. We shopped at one place – Lowe’s. IMO – best selection of quality stuff. We bought Pella select 6000 series in poplar white with an etched glass panel (haven’t opened that yet – screen in now). It went in as per the instructions and was much easier bc my opening is very standard. Overall, happy with the install and look.

1/2 Marathon Training Program

I signed up early.  My mind was made up.  I looked at different training programs, and ultimately decided on the Hal Higdon 1/2 marathon novice training program based on suggestions and reccomendations from others.  I’m heading into week 5, and so far so good.  My mileage is picking up, and I’m working on flexibility daily (trying seriously to reduce the risk of injury).  Some good information in the links below if you are looking for a plan to follow:

Beetlejuice – Alec Baldwin? Really?

I stumbled across this on a deal website.  Thought it was odd that it listed Alec Baldwin in the marquee actor slot (was he even in this movie?).  Michael Keaton!!
